Renal Ventures Management – Chief Financial Officer – May 2007 to May 2017
An integral member of the management team leading strategy, growth, regulatory compliance, tax, risk management and systems. Developed a metric based budgeting and financial analysis group which assisted in maintaining costs amongst the lowest in the industry. Built lean organizations in finance, business development and information technology to support multi-state clinic growth and compounded annual revenue growth of 24.3%. Led sale of Company to a strategic buyer in 2017.
Developed a best-in-class revenue management organization resulting in industry leading revenue per treatment while maintaining very low days outstanding. Tailored reimbursement strategies for various segments of the business as well as different geographies.
Drove business development activities resulting in nearly triple the number of clinics and 38.3% EBITDA growth rate. Have developed two new synergistic lines of business and built acquisition pipelines in both.
Led Company effort to acquire first commercial bank loan which is now a $100.0 million syndicated facility. Obtained additional growth capital from Goldman Sachs in 2011. Manage Goldman Sachs relationship.
Reduced cycle times in finance group to produce eight-day monthly closes, mid March audit results and mid March tax returns and K-1s for over 40 joint ventures.
Denver Newspaper Agency – Chief Financial Officer – Senior Vice President of Finance and Administration – July 2001 to Sept 2006
Led 160-person finance and information technology team with responsibility for financial reporting and control, management reporting and analysis, strategic planning, corporate finance and banking relationships, procurement, treasury activities, budgeting, capital planning and information systems. Created and drove business plans for new ventures and created the organizational, reporting and control structures for this new entity. Brought in by CEO as a result of consulting provided as the lead partner of the PricewaterhouseCoopers Corporate Finance team engaged to design and form the Agency.
Significant achievements while at the Agency include:
Structured, negotiated and placed over $300.0 million of bank and real estate financings including revolvers, synthetic leases, hedge transactions and letters of credit
Created systems and controls that led to a 30% reduction in headcount, 25% reduction in inventories, a three-day month-end close and significant cost reductions
At inception of Agency, built new finance and information services teams and revamped strategic and operating processes to more competitively manage the business
Significantly upgraded the financial analysis processes to provide improved decision-making capabilities and faster change management
Designed and implemented new electronic commerce platform
Redesigned health and welfare plans including introduction of self-funding leading to significant savings in highly unionized environment
Oversaw the Agency’s risk management function including placement of all insurance
Developed and implemented necessary controls, procedures and processes to satisfy parent companies Sarbanes-Oxley and SEC reporting requirements. Regularly participated in investor relations activities and led investor and board presentations
PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP – Partner – August 1978 to June 2001
Led Denver practice in M&A and corporate finance activities including sales of entities, debt and equity financings, due diligence, business combinations, process control and design and post merger integration.
Participated in several international transactions. Significant industry experience in financial services, information technology, natural resources, transportation and distribution, communications and manufacturing.
Began career as an auditor and went on to form the regional transaction services group and was a founder of the firms registered broker dealer.

Lead the Denver based team that designed, planned and executed the merger of Denver’s two daily newspapers into The Denver Newspaper Agency. Later was recruited to join the Agency as Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President
Member of national team that developed the firm’s “Accelerated Transition” platform, it’s post merger integration methodology
Focused on public entities as an audit partner, participating in IPO’s and secondary offerings of debt and equity securities. Industries included technology, telecommunications, manufacturing, financial services and natural resources.
